There are people we have to choose to forgive over, and over, and over again because they will never change. They will always be mean and will continue in their hurtful ways. If we choose not to forgive there are severe consequences for us emotionally and physically. Unforgiveness leads to bitterness, bitterness leads to anger, anger leads to hatred, and hatred leads to murder (in the heart of our minds we would rather them be dead as far as we are concerned). Unforgiveness will cause our health to suffer and our soul to rot as it eats at us like a cancer. But we can also choose to exercise the gift of forgiveness. God’s plan for healing is through forgiveness. Forgiveness is the only thing that can heal a bitter, hardened heart. Forgiveness brings closure, and a closed wound is a healed wound. The Bible says, “As far as you are concerned, be at peace with all men…” We can’t control the actions of others, but we can control our re-actions. Exercising forgiveness produces a healthy lifestyle spiritually, emotionally and physically as freedom is the fruit of our reward. If there is someone you need to forgive as described above, forgive them today, and live in freedom by exercising the gift of forgiveness.
